Wilson’s Furniture in Bridgeport, Ohio caught on fire Friday evening, the 18th of November. Residents as far as Martins Ferry could smell the fire burning.
Exits to Bridgeport were closed and traffic was diverted while area firefighters put out the fire. Owner Jason Wilson said it was thought to have started on the second floor.
Three area fire departments were involved in putting out the fire, Wheeling, Bridgeport and Martins Ferry. The furniture store has been declared a total loss.
Wilson’s Furniture was founded by Charles Adolph in 1898. His son-in-law, Howard Wilson, joined the company and the business name was changed to Wilson’s Furniture.
Five generations of Wilson’s have operated the store, which has been in business for 125 years.
