- Defuniak Springs, FL was discovered in the 1880’s by a Pensacola & Atlantic Railroad surveyor, W.D. Chipley.
- Established in 1885 as a small town focused as a haven for hunting and health benefits with a natural round lake.

- On November 26th, two events launched the Holiday Season: Hometown Christmas and Merry Main Street.
- Array of wood carvings to crochet to knitted items to bee centric products to baked goods and more were featured to entice shoppers and Mr. & Mrs. Claus were on hand to thrill all ages!
This area was originally inhabited by Native Americans and in the early 1880’s was discovered by the Pensacola and Atlantic Railroad (PAR) survey party headed by W.D. Chipley. He spearheaded the development and named the city after Frederick DeFuniak, president of PAR. Eventually it transitioned into Defuniak Springs and became established in1885 as a small town for hunting and health resort known for its naturally round lake.
Today, residents have created traditions to celebrate the holidays with local crafts and tempting hand-made products for that special person! Beautiful items from Bee products (honey, candles, soaps, etc.), assorted crochet, knitted shawls and afghan’s, basket weaving, tea kettle wind chimes or wood products were proudly displayed.
Just down the road on “Main Street,” was a different flavor of local artisans featuring their products to entice holiday shoppers! The street was closed to host this festivity. The live music created an atmosphere for happy spirits and children enjoyed the colorful assortments of “All Things Wonderful!”
Defuniak Springs’ citizens know how to continue tradition with colorful celebrations and displaying the talents of many of their region’s residents! These festivities will continue until the week before Christmas. Another well-known tradition, Christmas Reflections. Christmas themed decorated homes around the lake (ending December 31st). People come from far and wide to experience the lovely Victorian era homes brightly lit, creating the atmosphere of cheer and wonder!
