A night where some dreams are made while for some others it may just be a real-life nightmare. Cheers of success to police probes? The big stage under the spotlight while lies remain in the dark.
- A Great night for some high school football in Stuart Florida. MCHS vs Strahahan.
- The twelfth man is in the house as the stands are rocking and the players are rolling.
- Great fundamentals with a great attitude will win. While the ground game and defense control the clock and score the band and homecoming attendees command the crowd’s attention.
- Running back Dominic Lucci is the star of the show, but what happened to star QB Jayden Vega?
- Police probe into high-ranking officers at PSLPD who also volunteer for the team.
- MCHS is not listed as a Choice Program according to the Martin County School district website.
When traveling south on route 1 you can take a right turn on to Indian Street and proceed to the Martin County High School Football Stadium.
It’s Friday Night Lights and the varsity football team has a homecoming game scheduled.
The students, coaches, parents, family members, and fans are all in full attendance and are all fired up to see the outcome of the picturesque night.
With the student’s section chanting drawls of rumbles focusing the fever pitch felt there by all the fans.
All while the band was blaring horns, with the clashing cymbals and drums were at times hard to tell from the crunching of teenagers’ pads on the gridirona hundred feet away.
After a field goal by the Stranahan squad at the 7:31 mark of the first quarter the Tigers pounce back bigtime.
It was a shotgun single back flex set that sent the wing back in motion to set up the counter draw to Lucci.
Big 290-pound right tackle #71 Kaleb Ferschke (jr.) and 6’5 split end #85 (sr.) Nick Roebas-Bass made some key blocks on this 46-yard touchdown run.
After a blocked punt by sophomore Alexander Mcpherson near the goal line is what made it easy for Lucci to punch in his second TD of the game (7 TDs for him during the season).
As we neared halftime for an intermission the score stood 14-3 with the Tigers having a dream game so far.
With halftime over its back to business, the Fort Lauderdale crew must have had a great speech in the locker room as they came out breathing fire like the Dragon on their helmet to make it a four-point game.
But the Tigers answered right back with a ball controlling drive resulting in the final score (21-11) and Lucci’s third TD (16-109-3) and over a hundred rushing yards on the day.
All great news for an almost perfect night, but one concern was why the Tigers best player was not playing?
Most likely an injury but upon investigation according to the TCPalm. QB Jayden Vega’s status was not going to be disclosed by the Tiger Athletic Department.
Turns out two weeks earlier (beginning the two week Vega was listed out) on 9/22 there was an investigation sparked by an anonymous complaint that claimed to be on behalf of a student athlete’s parent.
From WPTV It alleged “illegal recruiting of student athletes at MCHS perpetrated by high-ranking officers of the city of Port St. lucie Police Department”
The department’s Assistant Chief and his brother, a Sergeant both volunteered with the football team and had the same last name as the star QB Vega.
But after the red tape they were cleared by the police because none of their names were on the school’s enrollment paperwork.
The school district did not want to press any criminal charges, but just like the Tigers football season is not out of the woods yet so are these allegations.
The Florida Highschool Athletic Association said, “they will conduct a review to either clear MCHS, or issue penalties if necessary”.
