Locals in St. Clairsville Ohio will have another option for fueling soon.
- Sam’s Club in St. Clairsville is installing a gas station to be opened around February
- 2 additional gas stations opened in St. Clairsville in 2016
- Residents in St. Clairsville are buzzing about the fencing in Sam’s Club parking lot
Driving through the Ohio Valley Plaza you can hardly miss the large area fenced off in the parking lot of Sam’s Club.
A gas station is going in and will be done somewhere between December and February, but likely closer to February.
In 2016, St. Clairsville saw 2 additional gas stations opened, Kroger in the Ohio Valley Plaza and Sheets just outside the Plaza.
With the population of 5,000 in St. Clairsville in steady decline for the last 10 years, you have to wonder if another new gas station is really needed.
The obvious question, of course, is what will be the effect on the small privately owned stations. It’s not hard to figure it out.
The Ohio Valley Mall has seen the exit of all but one of its department stores: Macy’s, Elder-Beerman, Sears, JC Penney and Kmart are gone. Boscov’s, which prohibited entry without a mask during 2020, is the only remaining department store.
One thing is certain, there will be more fueling options for those shoppers who feel the need to leave the Valley and shop elsewhere.
