This is an ongoing lawsuit concerning unchecked drainage management leading to flooding.
- Wakeup call after Matthew & Irma in 2016, 2017.
- Many homes flooded, but was it the storms or something more complicated?
- Force draining in most lagoons during Ian last month, many homes were spared.
Having lived in a marsh surrounded, woodsy, country club community for almost 20 years, we had an unpleasant wakeup call after storms Matthew and Irma (2016,2017).
Many homes flooded, but was it the storms or something more complicated?
After much research by concerned residents, it was determined that unbridled building and lack of adherence to drainage management had gone unchecked.
Proper drainage, swales, berms and pond management had been grossly ignored and outright denied as needed on certain streets.
Inquiries at the HOA, County and even State level resulted in years of excuses and finger pointing. Residents ultimately hired counsel and water management experts.
This seemed the only option to compel compliance to protect their homes from future flooding.
By forcing draining in most lagoons during Ian last month, many homes were spared, but this is only one of the many band aids on a truly broken system.
Ultimately it will be a jury’s decision on who will be held accountable. Criminal charges could apply.
