*With autism rising exponentially in the past couple of decades, parents find themselves worrying about how to care for their affected children entering adulthood. Amy and Howard Groshell are parents who have managed to provide a holistic life for their family and daughter Gentry who is a non-speaking autistic young woman who types to communicate.
Having been involved in local autism awareness in the community, the Groshells gleaned from their daughter’s former group home and others in near-by communities to decide what this homestead would look like. For them, there had to be elements of nature, healthy food, skill building and camaraderie, as well as opportunities for community inclusion.
Now 6 individuals and their families form a second family: Peace of Heart Community. At Peace of Heart Home, experienced support staff are tasked with client centered individualized programs and meticulously planned outings and growth opportunities.
One of the favorite days at Peace of Heart are Saturday mornings when they have their farmers market. People from the community can purchase seasonal produce grown right on its farm, seeded, grown and harvested by farm staff, individuals with autism and community volunteers.
